Has anyone built a 429 from a 460, any advantages? I can purchase a 75 460 from a cougar for next to nothing. The engine has 68000 orginal miles. The engine run very well. I reliaze in 75 the engine would fairly low compresion and not much output. I would like to turn into a 429 high compression for a 72 mustang. I'm looking for minimum 350HP, does anyone think its possible with stock heads.
You want to de-stroke the 460 to a 429 and use the heads that are already on it?
If I have that straight, I don't see the point. All you would do is loose cubic inches. Sure it would have a little more RPM potential but in my mind it's not worth the hassle or expense.
If you're set on using the heads you have, why not just make a high compression 460? You'll have 31 more cubic inches of potential to make power.
Try a search on 460 head power potential. It been covered in depth several times.
