Any one ever converted to a 5-speed?
I am thinking of using the drive train from my mustang in my project truck. ie. 351w backed by a 5 speed w/ a 9" and 4:11 gears.

Should be nice. I'm running a 351W with an AOD out of a Mustang with 3.73 gears. The gears get me off the line quick but I can run with traffic on the interstate and never bust 2ooo rpm's

probably both, didn't the mustangs use a pull type clutch? trucks are push, and I know with my toploader and TKO I had to have the driveshaft shortened when I put them in my truck
yep, plugged right into the back of it and read within 2mph or so at 60 when I checked it against my GPS with my 4.10's, it will probably read different with different gear ratios
I have a FE so I just bolted it up to my bellhousing and went with it clutch linkage and all. I had to move the tranny crossmember back about 1 inch, but if I had used a car bellhousing which I'll swap to soon it would probably go into the factory holes. Oh yeah I couldn't use the bench seat but that was from the toploader and V-gate the TKO has several shifter locations so one could be made to work if you pushed it forward and found the right shifter handle, I used one from a mustang and a hurst **** and it fits just right for me and had to get a auto transmission tunnel cover which I used a cutoff wheel on and cut my own hole for the shifter
I swapped a late model truck 5-speed into my truck with the hydraulic clutch setup. It's been in my truck for two years and works great. I was going to use a T-5...the guts in the truck trans are a whole lot beefier than the Stang trans. The trans has a bad reputation but, my 20 year old neighbor couldn't break it in his F-150 and that was dumping the clutch with 35-inch mud tires. I've got it behind a fuel injected 5.0 Stang engine and have had no problems with it. Plus, the truck shifter ends up in the right place and is the right length compared to the T-5.
Sure you have a T-5?
The T-5's do not have the shifter in the right place at all. It will end up in the middle of your seat. Also, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure F-150's never used the T-5. Dumping the clutch in a truck would likely blow the hell out of a T-5. The trucks used a toploader tranny made by mazda. It's pretty tough, but if it ever breaks plan on taking a second mortgage as parts are outrageous. I owned a 91 f150 4x4 5.0 5 speed and couldn't kill that truck. I finally sold it and the tranny went out on the guy the next week. I got the tranny parts at cost and free labor for the guy through friends in the tranny business and he still had over $1000 in that tranny.
I have the Mazda M5R2 5-Speed in my truck. (Check out my signature.) I was refering to that tranny in my above post! That's the one my neighbor couldn't break! Dumping the clutch with a T-5 and 35" tires would spell grenade!
yes I know where a t-5 shifter is... but with buckets or a bench w/ a cut out the shifter will be near my hip. much better than that 4 foot pole by the dash. and I was using t-5 as a reference(meaning close ratio, not truck gears) I have already grenaded one t-5 behind this 351w, if i go this route it will most likely be tremec or something comperable.
