This is an update on a post about creaking and squeaking supercab doors on a 2002 250.
I have written ford, they assured me that this squeking was not normal or expected. They called the service manager and told (warned) him that I was comming.
Fast forward to now. I have brought the truck to the dealership 5 times. They are tired of seeing me. I went to pick it up today, and it creaked before I got out of the parking lot. I drove at 5 mph down a bad street to see if anything was different and still the same. Talked the service advisor to take a ride. He admitted that he heard it and it would bug him too. Then he and the tech drove the truck while I waited. They want to try it again. Which makes week number 6. Not continuous, usually a break of a week or two inbetween when I just have to have the truck.
At one point they lubed the doors, but it lasted only a couple of weeks. Whatever they used was nasty.
God help us **** retentive people bent on perfection!
Its a very bad problem with Real Easy fix... Five min. search would of done you more good than 5 trips to the dealer... they wont fix it... you have to tighten the stricker plates... replace the bolts with standard ones, that allow about 1/16" movement inward.. if the creaking dont stop.. ream the holes.. keep adjusting them in small incriments three of my doors took 1/16"..one took 1/4"!.... I had all the door panels, off.. my wife driving, me jumping all around trying to find the cures.. when i did, its Amazing..quite.....Itll work i promise.
Mine squeaks/rubs too. It doesn't bother me a whole lot but I can understand the complaint-this just shouldn't happen on a brand new $30000 to $40000 vehicle.
Anyway, I've had good luck quieting mine down by rubbing dielectric grease on the door gaskets/seals/weatherstrips. The only catch is you have to do it every few months or so as it wears off. Not a permanent fix like adjusting the strike plates but it may help someone who wants a quick temporary fix.
Thanks for the tip jetjock, i did do this and it worked for a short while. I drilled the holes and did everything else that you recomended last time. It just did not solve the problem. I moved the striker plates in about 3/16 of an inch on both sides. The doors where so tight you had to slam the crap out of them for them to close. When you opened them, they made a pop before they came open. Just did not solve the problem and created some more.
Start from scratch
Make sure all your door gaps and body alignment is correct first .hinges ,door height ,tilt in or out at the top /bottom
This needs to be done in a warm /flat garage floor.
because these trucks flex .if you start with it flexed already (1st mistake) you make it that much harder to correct .
Also I would retorque all the body to frame mounts first also ! some can be incorrect from the factory.
Ive also seen broken or missing welds in the floor pans of these trucks cause excessive flexing !
Jetjocks suggestions are good but a little extreme , though for his truck being lifted and pulling trailers ,flexing is increased thus a more radical fix was needed .
I worked in bodyshops for yrs on all kinds of ford vehicles never had to enlarge holes to fix squeeky doors.
Hllon... Man that sucks that you tried it and it did not work...my last pitch would be to keep trying differnt increments.. on my driver door i had it soo tight it was same as you said.. hard to close and would pop when open.. finnally i got the rattles to go away.. with it a bit looser than that.. its strange but it just takes the perfect spot.. If your creaks and rattles changed( increased/decreased) with your adjustments than you know your in the right area.. If they did not change.. than youll have to try something else.... I was soo pleased when my truck rides sooo quite.... I had to sell a 91 Jeep i had cause it had a creak under the driver side, that i just could not stand.. or find....Im too **** about my stuff.. that id have to get rid of the vehicle.. I sold the jeep, to get another one that i loved for years.. Anyway good luck and dont give up.. youll just be ****ed for years KEEP TYRING, YOULL FIND IT!... I know i would.. or id sell it...
I hate to jump back in on this post on these damn noisy doors but here goes. My truck makes the same noises...did it since day one. The dealer will spray some garbage on the door seals to get you out the door but that don't work. I drilled and moved the strikers. Did not work on my truck. The noise comes from the upper door seal rubbing on top of the door. I put some felt velco on the tops. Shut the noise right up. Not the best fix cause you get wind noise and if it gets wet the doors freeze to the rubber. Also check the door panels, they creak on the paint pretty bad thus making bad noises. The problem is that Ford was too cheap to put the channels on the roof of the supercabs like they did on the crew cabs and they flex like crazy because of it. I did see for the first time today a 2003 supercab with channels on both sides and that truck does not make a peep. Makes you blood boil when you pay all this money and it sounds like crap inside when you drive down the road.
That is the problem here...the interior door panels shutter and creak all the time. On the two front doors and the supercab doors. Silly to spend $31,000 on a truck and have to deal with such a crappy door. This is my first ford truck, very happy so far. If ford powertrain engineering and GM interior engineers would get together, they would have a super truck. The GM interiors are perfect. I owned 4 GM trucks and never a peep from anything on the inside.......The outside and under the hood...well...that is why I am in a Ford.
My 02 CC makes lots of noises. drives me crazy
I have A 99 It does not make A pep. go figure
I also notice on the 02 that the paint is coming off the tops of the doors and were the back doors hit the top of the rubber that it is waring A groove in the rubber. Next time I am at the dealer I am going to have them replace it. I am also thinking of having A body shop look at it to see if they think they can ajust the doors. When I bought the truck the doors hood and fender needed ajusting sense the plant couldn't get it right.
If any one comes up with A fix please let me no. If I find some way to fix it I will let every one here no.
