take off door ajar switch
on 1998 expedition .how to take door ajarswitch off latch assembly thanx.
Hi mountainman,
I assume you already know how to remove the panel. Here are some directions I got from another member a while ago. I hope this helps you out.
1. After the door panel is off, you will need to undo the clips holding on the lock button rod and disconnect. Now the foam can be pealed back to allow access to the inside of the door. It is also a good Idea to remove the bulb from the courtesy door lamp.
2. Undo the bolt holding the window channel to the door frame, this is down on the left side of the door and there is only 1 bolt with no nut on the backside to drop. This will give you some room to work.
3. Mark with a marker the locations of the 3 adjusting rods for the lock, inside opening handle and the outside opening handle. Pop up the plastic clips usally yellow, red or white and remove 2 of the 3 rods, you might want to draw a sketch or take a picture of the orientation of these rods before removing. Be careful since these clips are plastic.
4. Unplug the 2 electrical connections from the latch assembley and unscrew the 3 black torx screws from the outside of the door where it latches to the door jamb.
5. Now with a little twisting and turning and pushing the window guide that we removed the bolt for earlier, you will be able to take the whole latch assembely out and replace the door pin switch that is on the bottom of the latch pointing up. Just push up and turn 45-90 degrees and it will come out.
6. reinstall in reverse order.
The part number we used was XF1Z10B987AA List price $11.25 check with the dealer to be sure this is the correct P/N.
