Thanks for the tip Matt.I'm pretty picky where I use them, but like you say,you never know who will access the info on me.With all the crooks out there,it's just a matter of time I suppose.
Originally posted by f=2504by497 heres a good tip, instead of signing the back of the credit card with your sig;write check ID instead, so if you lose your wallet, they don't have your sig.
I've seen so many people do that. Legally you are not supposed to take a credit/debit card unless it is signed. Writing on there "See ID" doesnt count as signing it. Just depends on the person taking the card. I've made people sign it in front of me after checking there ID to make sure as best as I could that it was them.
Originally posted by Tim Lamkin Very good info for all. What bank were you using.
A state credit union....which brings up another point....They had my wife's ssn as our account number. I had them change it to a randomly generated number that has no meaning...
I always write Ask For ID on my cards. I figure it make them look at my license, and make sure I look the same. I also only use a check card. That way I don't have a big credit limit. I try to keep as little money as possible in my checking account, and use internet banking to transfer funds if I need to. I rarely use cash anymore because the checkbook and check card are so convenient. It is also easier for me to not spend money if I don't have cash.
I don't have a signed a credit card, instead I have written on the back in the signature spot "SEE PHOTO ID". I wish more places at least asked for ID - I don't care if they try and match the signature.
Got a call from Visa fraud division in Houston last week. They wanted to verify some suspicious charges to my account. Turns out someone had gotten into my locked 03 F150 and removed two credit cards from my wallet. My vehicle was parked at the Austin Town Lake hike and bike trail. Several charges were made within a 45 minute period. I thought the call from Visa was a joke, someone wanting to get me to give out my credit card number. I couldn't have been more wrong. If it wasn't for visa calling me no telling how much $$$ they would have charged. I suspended the card that day. I am not responsible for any of the unauthorized charges since the card was reported stolen. The following weekend I was again parked at the Austin Hike and Bike trail ( under Mopac) and again someone got into my locked truck. This time I didn't leave anything of value in the truck. When we returned home from our ride and getting cleaned up we were about to go out to dinner. I asked my wife for her debit card to pay for dinner. She couldn't find it. Turns out she had taken it with her on our ride. She had put it in her purse under her seat. $490.00 later Visa again called.....Two points I want to make....I learned from my mistake the first time not to leave anything of value in a F150, it takes a thief almost as much time to gain access to the inside of the vehicle with a screw driver as it does me with my key. Second, I need to communicate better with my spouse. I guess I failed to tell her my concerns about the security of the door locks in my truck.
I can't believe ford hasn't addressed the door lock issue in an earlier model.
The bank covered the unauthorized debit card charges, it took a week to get my money but I did get it back.
