I have a 97 F150 with a 6 cylinder and at start up the pressure is fine untill it warms up and then drops. If I put it in nutral it goes bask up.I have had the oil pump replaced and that worked for some time but started started droping pressure again. Can anyone help with this?
Does the engine make any unusual noise when the oil pressure drops?
If not, you probably have a bad sending unit for the gauge.
Installing, even temporarily, a good mechanical gauge would be the best so you get a true reading of what the pressure is.
You might have a gunked up head. Pull your valve cover off and check your head for clogged oil passages. Oil drains to sump when off fill up the head when running, causing oil press drop.
Totally normal as the oil heats up.Mustangs are well known for this. The factory gauges are crap anyway and readings are to be takes with a grain of salt.As the motor rpm goes up so should pressure if there is really a problem you will hear the motor knock. If it really bugs you should get an aftermarket gauge. My oil guage does not move leading me to believe the gauge or sending unit is busted.Could also be a plugged oil picup
I had the same problem...turns out it was just a clogged oil filter. I changed the oil...and ran some Marvel Mystery Oil for 500 miles and changed it again. ran like a champ after that. This seems to be common problem...I have seen it a lot on FTE. Actually it is the problem that led me to finding this site for the first time...maybe it was one of the few times my luck worked in favor of me...good luck
