Hello:
I just bought a really clean 1986 HD F150 extended cab, 8'box 2wd 5.0 V8. It has dual gas tanks. When I run the back tank, it runs fine but also pumps gas into the front tank to the point it overflows. It may be doing the same thing running on the front tank back to the rear tank as well. I have not driven it a lot yet, but when running on the front tank it went through a half a tank of gas according to the gauge to go ten miles. It can't be "that" hard on gas!!! I know they had some check valve recalls. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it. Do the tanks have to be rempoved to solve this. Any help is really appreciated!!

I was talking to a guy at a dealership (he worked there) he said he has the same prob. He told me that when he fills up both tankes he runs of the front tank for a while and then switches to back one, this lets gas go into front tank without over flowing. I guess he did not want to fix ,this may not work for you. As for the guage you may have a break in the wiper wire in the sending unit, full goes way past the mark when around 3/4 it drops to empty, after a few more miles it then shows about 1/4 and drops way past the empty mark when "empty". My truck does this and drives me nuts sometimes. I have to be a mileage counter to keep from running out.
