I'M Back...............................

Been out of sight for a while. Just didn't like how things were heading. The same questions over and over again because no one knows how to SEARCH. They just figure "I'll ask because someone will answer.........."

So I am back for another try..............

And even upon my return I just need to scroll down a few posts and I see THE SAME QUESTIONS.......................

SEARCH PEOPLE LEARN TO SEARCH Stop wasting everyone elses time.............

I am sorry if I seem harsh but I am meerly pointing out the obvious...............

Steve,

If questions aren't asked and answers posted then what is the purpose of this forum. It might help for some of the Senior members to help the newer members in learning to SEARCH. I know how to search, but I also like to see who might have the same questions/problems as I do with my Expedition. I read the repeat questions to see if there is something new that I might have missed on a previous post.

Just a few thoughts from a fairly new and happy member

I agree with dmvguy.

Although many of the same questions get asked, that gives a chance for newer members to have a chance to respond with some input on questions they may not have ever seen from older threads. New bits of info and opinions come out in responses all the time.

I wouldn't want any members to be afraid to ask a question for fear that it has already been asked.

Steve,

GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!!

When I first signed up to this board, I learned a great deal of information from you and others such as BigMatt, Buzzard, Tyger and Farmlaw!

Just to catch you up, I was able to fix the phantom Odometer problem, BigMatt decided to stop working on his own truck , and the rest of the guys just keep helping the newest members who sign up to our board. (Still the best one I've been able to find on this huge black hole we call the internet!)

I am fortunate enough to have access to a computer pretty much all day at work and I would have to say that I have one window open on this site ALL DAY LONG! I know that you see an awful lot of repeated questions, but I just can't stay away! I find more hints and tricks that I never would have thought of.

I was looking at your gallery today and noticed a stripped down 5.4. Is that the newest heart for the beast?

Try not to get too down on the repeat questions, and STICK AROUND, you are one of the elders that REALLY HELPS when the good questions come out!

Have a good one,

Tim

PS...Thanks for the help on the service info a few months back!

Ah common problem on all forums. Tolerance will depend on the moderators and the ratio of newbies to old timers.

It doesn't irk me as much as it does Steve BUT there is a reason why all forums archive their threads and offers the search feature (hint hint )

If a search does not yield the answer to your question then ask away. The senior members here are always helpful. Some forums are absolutely merciless against newbies with their repeat questions.

Steve,

Sounds like an excellent time for you to use your ClubFTE membership and create an Expedition FAQ. Similar to Matt's E.O.G. but have it stickied to the top.

I did it for the Super Duty forum and am working on one for the Excursion and V10 forum.

Super Duty FAQ

BTW, forums not only answer questions but build friendships. Recycled questions do that. Searches can take the relationship out of the whole FTE thing.

Put your experience on "paper".

I am not picking on anyone with my rant...I am just ranting.......

DMVGUY:
The purpose of the forums are to LEARN one can do this by conducting MINOR AMOUNTS of RESEARCH It also has the purpose of answering questions. To answer questions that have already been asked and answered FEW times...Well it just get annoying..........................People with the same problems would be contained in a response to the original question OR one of the "RE-ASKS"..........

Allamerican......
If they searched..they just MIGHT find an answer...Cause, it's probably been asked already...........

Sturge:
Why should I be afraid to express my opinions??:lol

Dakota:
I am happy to hear that I can help..and I am Happy to be back....I am glad to see it was just a cold joint soldered joint issue and I am sure that info will help a few people....I will have to put a STOP to Matts "LAZINESS:lol"....Yes sir that is going to be the heart...A very Strong heart......I do try to avoid the repeats, but there are just so many it makes my eyes bleed:lol...

Mattias:
I agree it is a comon problem..Tolerance, Yes but how much must we display...At what point do people start to LEARN BY RESEARCH.............Instead of looking for an "instant fix" with MINIMAL/NO amounts of work. I have seen some other forums where like you said they ARE MERCILESS and downright MEAN to repeat questions....

Monsta:
I think I just might do that...After SOME RESEARCH I might just compile a "MOST USEFUL THREADS" kind of thing for now...I have to learn how to make it like your SD FAQs.. That is quite nice.....It should make it easy for the "NEWBS" to find anything they might need.... Can you email me details on how you did it???

I do not think I am being unreasonable in my request that people SEARCH BEFORE THEY ASK A QUESTION.....

For those that are unaware....On the top right side of your screen there is a series of 7 (seven) buttons..If you count from left to right , the #6 (six) button is the SEARCH button. It is between the HELP and HOME buttons...

With my rant over...Wait until you guys see the new center console I am working on for the Ex....Buttons, switches, Scanner,CB, even CUP HOLDERS.....................I am going to replace my roof rack, add lots more lights, install my 3"Body Lift, 33's or 35s', Install a Priority start, and lots of other stuff.........

Other than that Have a Great Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve

Great advice but in the past, the majority of the times I have tried to this, instead of the search returning a list of topics/threads that are related to my search, I get an error that states something to the effect that server volume is too high and try again later.

Steve, what about the new engine? Did you ever install it or are you still building it?

Take it easy on the newbies. Let's not alienate them before they ever get going. Most of the time I don't mind the same old questions. They allow newbies to interact and get involved rather than just lurk in the shadows.

Thanks for your clarification on the purpose of this forum. If we all work together it will continue to be a great place to meet other owners, exchange information and solve problems. Ranting is good for the soul. Glad you are back and am looking forward to talking to you in the future.

Another benefit of doing a search is that if you had a related question to the answer you found (if you find it), then you can add that to the existing thread (old threads are commonly revived in this manner).

Therefore when the next person searches, he or she will find more information contained in the same thread as opposed to finding multiple threads asking the same question and possibly the same answers.

Nevertheless it's the great people that make the forum enjoyable and helpful. We all have a common interest which is why we are all here. FAQ is a great idea to help new users.
