On F150/250/350 etc... mid 80's to current, open diffs always have a two number code and traction-lok (posi) will always have a letter and a number code. A few examples:

17 is a 3.31 open diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)
18 is a 3.08 open diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)
19 is a 3.55 open diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)

H5 is a 4.10 posi diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)
H7 is a 3.31 posi diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)
H8 is a 3.08 posi diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)
H9 is a 3.55 posi diff Ford 8.8 (F150, Bronco, 4.0L Ranger)

C1 is a 3.73 posi diff Ford/Sterling Visteon 10.5 (F250sd/F350SD SRW)
C2 is a 4.10 posi diff Ford/Sterling Visteon 10.5 (F250sd/F350SD SRW)
C3 is a 4.30 posi diff Ford/Sterling Visteon 10.5 (F250sd/F350SD SRW)
etc... etc... etc...

Sorry forgot to mention it was late 70's ranger with the H6. I am pretty sure it isn't a mid 80's. Might have to run back to see. I am sure that it has a 9 inch and not 8.8.

Sorry, I have no data on models that old. Only 1987-current.

Body codes decoder

I picked up a rear today. It is a posi. How do I figure out what the ratio is?
The door tag reads year 1981
2FTDF14G4BCB02376

133 f141 cb4 k h6 2dsl

I double checked the axle code H6.

Thanks for your help!

81 F150 rear axle code "H6"????

I cannot find any documentation on what an axle code of H6 is. It is out of a 1981 F150 "Ranger". I triple checked the ratio on the tag and it says H6. From what I have found in a 86-90 model it is a LS 3.50 ratio. But cannot find out for the 81. Any help?

Mike
