I'm interested in looking into getting the original color my truck WAS painted when new, and which is now covered by primer from a previous owner. My paint code on my '54 F-100 is "U", and is sort of a greyish-green color, sorta muddy looking, although pleasant enough. I was wondering if it had a name (the color I mean)and what years this paint was used. MY local paint shop only seems to be able to reference back about 20 -30 years or so, so if the paint has not been fairly recently used, they can't help me because they just have nowere to look up the formula to mix the color. Also, my specs plate in the glove compartment has a "production code" number for the truck, and I wondered what it meant. It is: 23F4424Y
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!
In 1956 the U paint code was called Meadow Green - Ford Part Number M2J-14283. I don't know if it was the same color and code in 1954 but your description sounds like the color my 1956 F-250 (paint code U) was originally painted.
Hi,
The code "U" = Meadow Green as Earl had stated. This applied to 1954 as well. I'm not too sure on the production code, but I think it means it was built on the 23rd day of May, and it was the 44th unit built that day. I'm sure someone here would know more.
