V10 vs. Powerstroke
No offense taken. I did do a search and got some good info. But this is helping too, there is always someone out there that just joined up or missed the last one and has good info. I am sorry to those that dont want to look at it again, but those that are willing to contribute I really appreciate it. That was a helpful post comparing the 460 and the V10. Looks like it is a little more efficient while sounding like it has about the same power. That is helpful info. Thank you.
Any of those that want to contine please do, those that dont, just dont click that thread.

V10 vs. Powerstroke
I had a 99 250 SD CC with the PSD and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently traded it in on a 01 250 supercab with the V-10. I didn't realize how much I missed a gas engine. Here's what I like most about the V-10.
10.- Being able to order food through a drive thru W/O shutting down.
9.- Not waking the kids up when I leave for work in the morning.
8.- Not having the front end "bottom-out" when going over speed bumps.
7.- Having choices in where I want to by fuel.
6.- Not smelling like diesel after I find fuel.
5.- Not having to wait for the "wait to start" light to go off.
4.- Merging with traffic and not seeing a black diesel cloud in the mirror.
3.- Goosing the pedal and feeling the truck lunge.
2.- Saving the $4,000+ when not opting for the PSD.
And last but not least....
1.- Being able to pay the regular price for an oil change!
Seriously though, I never had any problems with the diesel, but the truck drives much different with all the weight up front. Many grades of diesel are horrible and full of water. If you ever do need to work on the diesel, the parts are very expensive. I drive about 25 miles to work, all but 2 miles are no traffic highway miles. I got 14.9 miles per gallon. My tires were a little larger than stock, 285 75R, the speedo is off by maybe 2 mph (according to GPS). My V-10 gets 13.9MPH. When I figured the cost difference for diesel 1.41 compared to 1.19 and the difference in oil-change, about $50-$60, and the savings of about $80 per month in payment ($20 per thousand, saving $4000 for not going diesel) I was saving quite a bit by going with the V-10 and giving up some mileage. Unless you NEED the diesel by pulling heavy loads all the time. I'd go with the V-10. Then again, that's just my opinion..... Sorry for the long post

>Each engine design has its share of flaws.
Yup, but being loud, smokey and smelly ain't one of them

Sorry boys I'am going to a diesel truck my F-Superduty (450) with 460 gas power gets a whopping 7 mpg empty and thats the best I have ever got and when the truck is loaded it drops to 4 to 5 mpg. Lets say this really sucks especially when this truck is used for a daily driver 50% of the time. When I drive to work 5 miles round trip yes I live close to work but back to the point in 30 miles approx it costs me 20 bucks canadain or 6.5 gallons. When I haul with the truck usually if I make a few 7000lb loads of gravel the truck burns about 25 dollars in fuel or 8 gallons of gas.
Hell I can't justify the gas this truck burns by the time I take the fuel expenses out of 35 dollars per hour that the truck makes it doesn't leave me with much profit.

I had to look long term to justify one or the other. The PSD is a $4000 option over the V10 in my F350. If I look at all costs involved, it takes me 150,000 miles to break even between the 2 engines. At my 10,000 miles per year that comes out to 15 years before I break even on that diesel option. I can't justify it financially. Now if I needed the extra torque or high altitude performance, then the PSD would be the way to go, but I don't need those benefits.

Hmmmmm now thats a tough question 10mpg or 18mpg I have the 1999 model super cab with the psd and a 3:73 rear end i average from 17 to 18 mpg really do enjoy the truck.Sure their is a little more expense involed in the psd compared to the v10 when it comes time to change the oil But man its worth it.HEY dont let those V10 wantabes fool you because deep down inside they all wish they went with the POWER STROKE..... HEHEHEHEEHE Take care and happy travels

My Uncle goes to Rodeos and stuff and pulls a gooseneck trailer with horses in it, well he had a 460 and he just bought a new F350 diesel and he said he would never go back to a gas burner. He said he liked the diesel cause he could get alot better fuel milage and could set the cruise on anything he wanted it on and it would pull the load that speed and never change gears and wouldn't burn much more fuel running it hard or running it easy. He said going down the interstate he could get around 22 miles to a gallon pulling the horse trailer running around 80 mph, now that is what he said so if he is lieing then i dunno. He said the 460 was really BAD and would pull good but he thought that the diesel would out do it! I have a diesel now and I really like it but I farm and to me the diesel is a hell of alot better than a gas burner. You know how a gas burner is when he gets a few miles on it likes to start missing and running bad but the diesel is gonna be there or always has for me!

Cool, I went away awhile and thought this was dead because everyone was complaining about it being overdone. I just got back and what a joy to see that people are still willing to talk about it. Thank you very much to everyone that gave input. I still have to way the facts, but it is really good to hear from everyone about what they think and their experiences with each engine. Thanks again and keep em coming if you are so willing.
