Here are some pics & sound clips of the Banks Powerpack installation. I hope to do a write-up of some kind to go along with the pics. Plus, I'll get a recording of the complete exhaust in the next day or so. The two .wav files are of "open headers". The "Oh my gosh" you hear in the background is my wife's reaction to the garage shaking when the V10 was fired up. I could listen to that all day long!
Oh yeah- there are two .wav files:
The file openheaders.wav is "CD quality" stereo for broadband users. If you have a modem or other slow connection, the lowheaders.wav file is a lot smaller but is mono.
hey nomo, was that crashing noise at the begining when ya started it up the cat crashing through the garage tryin to get the heck outta there? that sound pretty bad!
SSSUHHHWEEEEET!!! That sounds like a racing truck!! Install looked a little tight in places...what would you give the work on a 5-hammer scale, 1 being easiest??
I think it's from the camera being started. My wife used our camcorder to record the audio then I transferred it to my PC. Plus, it sounds like the camera mic was being over-driven. The V10 was LOUD- made the floor and walls vibrate. Man I love that sound. I've had wawii's recording downloaded for some time now so I could listen to it. Glad I finally have one of my truck.
>...what would you give the work on a 5-hammer scale
I'd say 3 or 3½ hammers.
I installed the driver's side by myself and it is the hardest one IMO. A friend helped with the passenger side & fitting the pipes. Clearances are a little tight in places, but you can get to everything with either a wrench or socket. No "special" tools are needed.
It is a single-out system, but the pipe is 3½ inch... more than enough for the power made by the "stock" V10. I'm not really into the dual "look". Plus, I don't want the soot blowing back on my trailer.
The complete stainless exhaust cost $1492.95 delivered to my house.
Cool. Did you notice much difference in the exhaust note between the Stinger and the full PowerPack?? I was just wondering if the headers give you a little more low-end resonance.

I installed the cat-back portion a few days before the headers. Of course I had to start it up with no muffler ;-). The sound isn't the same. The V10 sounds good with the factory exhaust and no muffler. It's kind of loud, but not extremely obnoxious. With open headers (my sound files), the exhaust is much, much louder- enough to shake the floor. Thus the title of this thread.

There is a noticeable difference in sound between the stinger and powerpack. The stinger has a slightly louder rumble than factory, and it's the same "kind" of sound as factory. The powerpack is a little louder than the stinger but has a different sound. More of a buzz or indy-car kind of sound mixed in with the OEM sound. I'll try to get a recording & post it.
NoMO.. congrats on the P-Pack. How do you like laying the wood to it and hearing, and feeling a difference?? Makes you want to give it a little more throttle than usual. Did you have a problem with the clearance between the exhaust and your transmission cooler line? Mine was laying right up against it and I really had a time getting everything to line up right. I ended up with about a 1/4" between the exhaust and the cooler line. JPS
NoMo, I take it that you had the "updated" factory Y-pipe? Mine looks nothing like that! I now truly understand the "necked down" version. You are correct, some one should have been fired over that "fix".
That Banks stuff just exudes quality! TTey didn't have to work real hard improving on the Ford design, now did they?
Why won't mine flutter!?!? I need an excuse!!!!!! Although, my mileage may drop as I'll burn through a tank of gas just sittin' in my driveway revvin' that son of a gun up!!!!!! Sweet music!
JPS-
First, did you get the URL to your sound file?
The P-pack is great. I do find myself just listening to it with a tad more throttle. As for the tranny line, I assume you are talking about where the Y-pipe joins with the cat (that is the closest place I can see on mine). If so, there's about 1-1.5 inches of clearance depending on whether you count the clamp or not. It was a real PITA to get everything fitted up correctly but definitely worth the effort. For a while, I was concerned that we had cut too much off the flange pipe because we couldn't get it fitted without a small gap where the Banks pipe is split. Finally gave up and un-bolted all the pipes and fitted just the cat & Y-pipe. Then we "made" everything else fit. Turned out good.
Monsta you are lucky. The 2000 F250 (that I used to have) fluttered horribly. In fact, it sounded more like a diesel than a gasser. But, even though it worms around somewhat, the '00 pipe is still better than the "fix" for '01.
