Question How do you use your 4x4?

High? Lo?

Do you ever use your 4x4 High when driving in the rain, on dirt roads, etc.

Just wondering . . .

I live a mile back on a private dirt road so I use it whenever it snows which is several times a year. I don't get any county services on my road so the snow stays till it melts. I use 4WD LO towing people out of ditches or pulling downed trees out of the road or sometimes going down a steep hill.

Generally you can use it whenever you want, as long as the road is slick enough for the front wheels to turn at a different rate than each other around turns...

So, driving in the rain with 4x4 high should be OK, I guess.

The times I've used 4x4 ('88 Nissan Pathfinder) it was because I needed to get out of fix, or go through some heavy woods. I ended up using low. I just never had a need for high and wondered what it was really good for.

I use it when the rear end starts fishtailing in 2hi or when I get stuck. 4lo is only good for pulling trees and stuck vehicles or if your burried bad in a snow bank or mud, top speed in 4lo is like 8mph. In winter I like to pack my bed full of snow, really helps with rear traction cutting my use of 4x4.

You can use it in the rain, but on just wet pavement, I wouldn't advise it. The front will still tend to scoot when turned on wet pavement.
Wet grass, gravel, snow, mud, etc is ok.

I see you have the LS diff. so you shouldn't need 4WD on wet pavement. The main problem in rain is hydroplaning which 4WD has no effect on anyway.--Jack

Alot of the problems that vehicles encounter in the rain are directly related to the style of tire thats being run on said vehicle.

Some tires are great highway tires but often are lacking in the rain and snow depts.

Some tires are great off road, but aren't worth a hoot on the highway.

Same goes for rain and snow.

The trick is to adjust your driving styles, to match the tires you have.
