This question is for those that have an MSD ignition already
installed on there BII's.
I was considering installing a MSD 6a ignition along with the MSD blaster coil in my 89 BII, 2.9
Typically what kind of economy and performance increase could I expect ????
Are these muliti spark systems a little harder on the plugs?
It seems they would be, with the increase of spark ??
if the ignition you have now is in good shape you probably won't have any noticible improvment. if you had a holly double pumper and a big cam it would make a big difference. in the days of breaker point ignitions bolting one of those on would make a big difference but your stock ignition has way more power than it needs. yes they are harder on plugs too
Yes they are harder on your stock plugs. If you are going to go with the box and blaster coil, Get the better wires and plugs to go along with them. I only noticed a smoother idle and a better throttle response. No major improvement at all.
that is exactly what you notice - better throttle response and idle. also there is a smoother rev the higher you get in the rpms. i noticed that when i rev a little higher it does not cut out at all, it is a smoother, stronger, pull. nothing like it is adding 20 hp or anything just lets you feel and use the power a little better. also, about the spark plugs you are supposed to open the gap on them a little so that you get a larger spark. still hard on the spark plugs but by opening them your not putting such a hot spark in such a little area, your i guess stretching the spark a little. thats the way i look at it so it might be a little off wack (like me). lol I actually have the MSD SCI ignition, supposedly for import cars, but the only difference between the SCI and the 6a is that the SCI is supposed to go up to 10,000 rpm. i would have purchased the 6a but i already had the SCI off my accord.
