What the hell is this? When I put it in gear (f or r) it makes a funny squeaking sound. (not unlike Christmas vacation) I have jumped up and down on the bed so I can assume it's not the shocks. What is it? u joints? rearend? no other probs.
I just had the same problem with my ranger. Does it start sqeaking when you move or at idle. If its when you move then I would think its your U-joints. But my truck sqeaks when I start it. Ever since I went through some deep water. I actually think it might be bearings in one of the pulleys. I hope not though!
It starts when I move. When I am moving, I can hit the throttle and make it do it also. Real annoying. Not the belt, though. Definately coming from the back end.
I would say it is definitely your u-joint. Have you ever done them yourself. They are real easy to change! I have had the same problem with my old 83 GMC stepside that I had. Fixed them on the lift at the garage my father works at. Took me about 45min.
A definite was to tell if it is teh u-joint or not is that they will only squeak when the vehicle is in motion and will increase in frequency as the vehicle speeds up.
I'd start here and pull the driveshaft and grease the u-joints.
Something common that also squeaks is the idler pulley.
yeah, I've done u joints before on an older ford. but I've got my buddy haynes to help me. It also happens a lot when I go over bumps. I realize that trucks are aren't supposed to ride like mercedes, but anyone got some good suggestions for shocks that will keep my kidneys from gettin bruised? Bilstein, edelbrock, rancho....etc. Which ones are smoothest. I've got 91000 and the shocks are stock. Keep in mind, I've got the air ride as well. Any sugg.?
