Question remote keyless entry?

Okay guys, I have 87' XLT Bronco, have any of you ever retro-fitted a older bronco with the remote door unlockers, like whats involved, can you do it with junkyard parts, or is it better to go aftermarket, just thought it would be cool to have on my soon to be new 87' Bronco. DW

Go aftermarket, it will be easier and you can get more functionality. For installation you’ll probably need a hole in the firewall and be hunting for wires till your sick in the stomach.

I installed keyless entry, power door locks and power windows on my '96 XL. If your pretty good at wiring it is not very difficult. It is time consuming.

If you can solder, etc you should not have much of a problem. I think most companies will provide you will a vehicle specific wiring diagram for install. I would definately go aftermarket. You can usually get a set up for pretty cheap. Look online and call around to find the best deals. I think my keyless entry cost less than 50 bucks.

For all the above it took me about all day to do it. For just a keyless entry, I would guess 2-3 hours if you take your time. I wired my whole thing up and tested, retested, etc before hiding and tucking all the wires in a neat way so it probably took me longer than it should have.

Good luck with it! I really enjoyed the keyless entry.

You can buy alarm systems on eBay that have keyless entry, remote start, and they can also be programmed to do things like roll your windows up and down for around 60 bucks. I am going to get one one of these days. If you don't like the alarm part you can always turn it off.

For around 100 bucks you can get one with an LCD button thing (the thing on your keychain) that will vibrate or beep if someone breaks into your Bronco and it even lights up where the break is (which door, etc.)

I installed my stuff almost two years ago...and have not had a single problem with it! I think I have a commando system if I remember correctly.

Here is a link:

http://www.commandocaralarms.com/keyless-entry.asp

They have everything from basic keyless entry to the highend stuff like they were talking about above.

Hope this helps.
