is the transfer case a chain drive unit in these trucks.
my case seems to jump out of gear but the shift arm is still in the 4H position.what would cause this and what tranfers cases fit this truck or is it an F250 only case
truck is an 88 F250 4x4, 5.0, 5 speed,free wheeling hubs if it matters
Yes all the T-cases used in these trucks are chain driven from the factory. If you have a light duty 250, you probably have a Borg-Warner 13-45. If it is a heavy duty, It will be a Borg-Warner 13-56 or a New Process 208.
CHECK FOR WORN OUT LEVER BUSHINGS OR THE SHIFT ROD SLOPPY WHERE IT GOES INTO THE FRONT OF THE CASE.HAD ONE WORN OUT WITH SAME PROBLEMS, MACHINED THE CASE AND INSTALLED OIL-LITE BUSHING. WAS GOOD UNTILL I GOT RID OF IT IN 2001.
