Please help!!! 351 & C6
The tranny didn't shift right into gear once or twice when cold but otherwise seemed fine until today.
I moved the truck 15 feet and heard a strange "clanging" (metallic) type noise when I put it back into park.
I left it running where it was and ran around the corner to grab some ATF in case it was low and to make sure the temp was warm before checking the level, only to return with the engine stalled and a burning wire "type of" smell coming from the motor.
Now the motor won't turn over at all and the voltage meter just bottoms out when ever I try to crank it over ( and the battery is fine). It's just like having a beat battery, without having a beat battery.
I'm really clueless and would greatly appreciate any possible senario's.
I'm pretty sure the trans fluid was low, but how could that play any part in the stalling and no restarting of the truck?
Once again,
please help and thanks for your time,
Justin

. Did a 96 come wiht a C-6?
Somebody suggested maybe the torque converter froze and that's keeping the engine from turning over.
Is that even possible?
One thing that happened to my baja bug was the starter stuck in the engaged position when my friend's kid was driving it (the key switch was bad and didnt release from 'start' by itself, you had to turn it back yourself) and it burnt the starter out while he was driving it around with the starter engaged to the flywheel, making all kinds of racket and smoke, with a definite 'burnt wire' smell to it. Did your starter get stuck in the 'kicked out' position?
I thought only the E4OD auto was offered by '96.... When I went to have my C6 serviced, the tranny shop guy was surprised that my '92 had a C6. That was the year Ford came out with the E4OD and both trans were offered that year.

Just curious if this could be whats wrong with one of my Lincoln cars.
It started sounding like a rod was knocking one morning several months ago & I had parked it till I can see whats wrong with it.
I had fired it up in December so the snow plow can clear my driveway. I drove it around town, came home & let it idle for a little bit to charge the battery. While it was idleing it just dies & hasn't started or even turned over since.
Giving syptoms of a siezed engine.

Turned out to be the starter as suggested by "ryanp and clipper1".
Like I said, I just purchased this truck and didn't realize that after cranking the ignition, that the key may tend to stay on the start position and initially continue to engage the starter until there's nothing else left of it.
Anyhow, I've replaced the starter and eveything is back to normal.
Thanks so much for your support and suggestions.
With any luck you'll never hear from me again........
