I know my Fords pretty well, except for vans, and I even owned a 1980 E-150 300/C-6 before.
I think the breakdown goes
1980-?
1979-1977?
Reason for asking is I want an older E series van, maybe 1979 or older to avoid emission laws in Atlanta GA. But, I am having trouble finding 77-78 vans around here with side barn doors. I have driven many vans with sliding doors and they end up being a hassle. Even in my 1995 Aerostar. My 1980 I never had problems with the side barn doors.
I do not like the later 60s/early 70s style because it does not have much of a nose.
So, now I can narrow my search to 75-78 so I do not have to pass emissions testing. I found one on EBAY (78) but, it looks pretty dogged and I am not sure it would make the 500 mile trip back home. I have AAA+, but, it only covers 100 miles
I am looking for an older style with barn doors, side and back, that I can turn into a seven pass. van and eventually 4x4.
I have been looking for a 75-78 van with barn doors on the side, like I use to have on my 1981. All I can find so far are sliders. Were barn doors on the side an option for those years?
