possible causes:
1. Improper fluid level
2. Manual linkage misadjusted/damaged
3. Low main control pressure in reverse
4. Reverse clutch assembly burnt/worn/leaking check ball in piston/keaking piston seal rings.
5. Valve body bolts loose/ too tight
6. Valve body dirty/sticking valves
7. Tranny fliter plugged
8. Pump damaged
9. Low/reverse servo piston seal cut/leaking
Wolffpax, FWIW that automatic actually wasn't the one in the 84 B2, that was the C5.
Ozzie - does the shifter appear to be engaging reverse but you get nothing when you let out the clutch, or what exactly? For future reference, you have a Toyo Kogyo 5 speed transmission (TK5).

fastpakr, the shifter engages, but when you let out on the clutch, I get nothing.
