Has anyone out there installed a set of Doug Thorley headers on a 86 clubwagon xlt with a 302 EFI engine? Part #thy216y-2
If so, how did it go?anything unexpected?
Thanks,
Steve
I put a set of F150 shorty headers from ford motor sport on my 87 clubwagon with a 5.0 and they fit perfectly with no interference with anything. I want to up grade the y pipe cat combo to a larger 5.8 size but haven't had the time to do it. I have had the headers on for 5 or 6 years with no problems at all.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Did you have too have your own Y pipe made? and I take it you still have the single exhaust?
And lastely do you remember the part #for the headers?
Thanks so much,
Steve.
I converted over the stock EFI system to a1993 Mustang mass air system. Swapped the cam out for a custom ground roller from Comp cams to get the correct firing order for the HO engine. Runs real nice for a heavy vehicle with a smaller engine.

Has anyone with headers had a problem with the temperature increase over the cast iron manifolds? It seems like the headers would be too close to the doghouse and would cause damage to the heatshield / doghouse.
Do your headers have ceramic coating?
I have been thinking about a exhaust / intake upgrade. Seems like the engine would be starving for air with the current intake setup, at least on my 91 351W. The air is fed into the airbox by a 2 inch diameter intake snorkel. The air then goes into the engine from the airbox with dual 2.5 inch rubber hoses... seems weird.
Then on the exhaust end, it runs from manifolds, to the y pipe to a dual inlet cat, to a single inlet cat then to the muffler then out 1 single 2.25 in tailpipe... I think that the y pipe off each manifold is larger than the tailpipe.
I was thinking that a custom intake system to open up the intake and some headers and a high flow cat(s) and high flow muffler would really make a difference.
I pull a 7000# travel trailer with the setup I have and find no extra heat than normal. The headers are stainless steel and are not coated. I wrapped some reflective heat tape around the Rubber air injection tubes that were close on the right side of the engine. Have pulled this trailer in 100 + degree heat with ac on and have had no problems at all.
