The oil pressure gauge on my 2000 Ranger is acting weird.
When I crank the truck the gauge lays flat at zero, then suddenly after running a few minutes it kicks up to the proper oil pressure level. I have noticed it dropping to nothing then kicking back up to the correct pressure a few times while driving too.
Any suggestions?
Your oil pressure sending unit is not working properly. I had mine replaced at 33,000 miles. It no longer does what you are describing. My truck did the same thing as yours.
I didn't replace it myself. It was still under warranty, so it was covered under that. I am not sure if it is a difficult to change or not. Sorry I am not more help on that.
I have a 94 ranger. The oil pressure gauge is acting weird on it too, except instead of dropping to zero it goes the other direction. Almost pegging high. Then it will drop back to normal. Could this be a sending unit problem also?

Btw. I'm a newbie. Hello everybody.
Hi feedthehogs, welcome to FTE!!!!
What engine do you have?? I don't think your problem is with the
sending unit, I think it's a problem with your oil pressure gauge,
or a bad ground on your instrument cluster. Is it only the oil
pressure gauge that pegs high???
If it makes you feel any better I think these Ford oil sensors have been doing that for years. My 88' Ranger stays at 1/3 of the gauge for awhile and then drops down to near 0. My friends 90' Ranger is similar. Sorry, not trying to be a post *****.

Engine is the 2.3 liter 4 banger. The oil pressure gauge is the only one acting screwie. It's been doing it about a year. I keep a close eye on the oil level and it's always OK.
