cam size

I dont completly uderstand how the cam size works i am loking for a cam thats going to give me lots of pulling power but i still got to be able to use it to drive to and from school.
the rig is a '77 F250 Ranger with the 400
i was wonder if putting a double roller timing chain in would be better than a stock timing chain if neither of those two what would be the best one to use.

I would ditch your stock timing set for a double roller set. That was the weak link for the 400 engine. If you are looking for a good cam that will give you lots of useable power, I would recommend the Comp Cam High Energy 268H. It has a noticeable idle, and works well with your stock intake, and exhaust if you still have them. Power band is 1500rpm-5500rpm. My buddy has a 77 F-250 with this cam in his 400 and he loves it. I am rebuilding my 400 with a Comp Cam Magnum 280H. This cam I wouldn't recommend for your truck because it doesn't start making power until higher RPM (power range 2000-6000). Also this cam requires at least 9.5-1 compression, aftermarket intake, headers, and a 2400rpm+ stall. I am building a 1978 F-100 Custom Pro Street racer that will be drivin on the street quite a bit. Hope this information helps you out.
