I want to put a System in my 1998 Ford F150 Lariat Extended Cab.

I dont want something that will rock the block But i do wand Bass that Hits and Clear sound.

I dont realy want Brand names ( if you feel the need to post them go ahead)

What im looking for realy is Whut will fit with out taking up my back bench , i still want to be able to flip it down for cargo so maybe a sub that will Fit on the smaller part behind the driver.

10" or 12 " ? how many watts , how many subs?

should run 4 2 way's in the doors , if so whut will fit? ( I dont have the owners manal ) How may watts should they be?

How to power it ? 1 amp or 2?

I have the factory 6 disk changer and it works realy well so far so i dont want to change it .

Oh budget ... i donno 1000$

alot of open ended questions there so lets hear your Opinions.

Thanks

Welcome to FTE!

My first suggestion will be to change the head unit, OEM units are usually very low quality and you will have to use a LOC converter if you are to hook it up to an amp.

I think it really depends on what you listen to, my two 8'' woofers sound pretty dang good to me!

The stock size for speakers is 6x8 and 6.5''

If you would like sound on a budget.....

Pheonix Gold tantrum 6.5inch separates are cheap....
http://www.purecaraudio.com/index.as...S&Category=480

I am sure you can get better ones for a bit more....but if you are stcking to a budget....these are the deal for you and they pretty good too....good sensitivity and freq response....good bang for the buck in my opinion.

YOu can use two sets...front and rear....so if you are using the 6.5 comps..
that makes it $170 for the 4 corners...

caraudiocenter.tripod.com/audiousabiz/id84.html
will yield you good pricing on an Autotek Amp....(5 channel) to save space
and provide all the CLEAN power you need for these speakers and a sub....
this amp runs on average $350...this place advertises a cheaper price...

Head unit: Eclipse or Pioneer....make sure it has front rear preouts....and a good pre amp voltage output or clean sound...price range will be in the $300-350 range. (if you go to circuit city and get the out of box special it is even cheaper (and do get the xtended warranty))

So....$870 spent we have $130 left....

You can go for an MTX thunderform and it is molded specifically for your trucl....the they sound great!!! THe famous auction site has them for reasonable rates.

MY estimate on installing this with signal cables, power cables, power cap etc...will cost you $1350......if you purchase them cheaply at www.partsexpress.com

SO we overshot your budget by a mere $300 or so dollars....

But the sound will be detailed, clean and the bass will pack a punch.

Do you have the Audio phile in dash 6? If so thats a great sounding stock head unit. You will need a Line Output Converter which will run you any where from $25-$50 You will need a 4ch L.O.C.
Here is a link with some great amps at good prices. http://www.avionixxusa.com/ep/products.htm
This is just to give you ideas.

Now for subs if you want good sound and don't need to let the neighborhood hear/feel you then two 8" or one 10" would work flawlessly. Two 8"s will be nice and punchy/musical where as the 10" will do the same but give you more low end. Don't get me wrong now you can fit a 15" in there but for a daily driver who just wants good clean sound i recommend 2 8"s or 1 10". I have 2 10"s and now rarely blast them like i did when i first put them in. I tuned my eq to have them more musical and man they sound good playing 80hz with my front comps playing at 50hz hpf. I now have my comps playing some of the bass my subs once did and I like it alot.
So now on to some comps....... For good sound quality this is where you might want to spend more of your budget. (lets not forget your still using the stock HU) There are many good name brands so go out and listen to some. Bring your own cd (make sure u dont leave it there lol) and set the bass/treable at 0 on the radio you playing it on. Take loudness off too. Try listening to speakers with a very basic radio maybe even the cheapest radio they have so it can be comparable to the stock HU. Do a search and see what others on the board of done. Most of all take your time and plan things out.
