Question electrical short

Hello,

I am having a problem I have not been able to figure out yet. But I am continuing to try. Maybe you have had this problem??

I have a 89' L6 F-150 Lariat , the problem is my truck battery dies in 2 days if I do not drive it. The battery is brand new. It has been doing this even with the old battery, I noticed that when I turn the ignition key switch to go to start the truck.. That I do not hear the fuel pump go on.. That is because I believe it is already on... I just recently replaced the alternator w/ voltage regulator... This is because my truck charging capacity died so I replaced the alternator...

Any ideas??? Please write... Thanks! DaverL

You need to do a test for a Short or power Drain .

It is a process of elimination.

Try this test.

If the light comes on bright, and you think it may be the fuel pump, pull the fuel pump relay and see if the light goes out.

There are 2 pumps.
One in the fuel tank & one under the driver along the frame

I'm not sure about an 89, but fuel pump relays are usually under the hood in a "power distribution" box. It's usually on the driver's side fenderwell in front of the brake booster. The relay will be about 1-2 inches square, and pull out of it's socket. If the relay listing is not on the box cover, you'll have to pull them one by one until you find the correct one.....
