I have a 2006 ford f-150 and my alternator died on me going to work the other day. I have an optima red top battery and continued to drive the 8 miles or so until I got to work because I didnt want to be stranded on the highway. I replaced the alternator and the truck has been cranking up just fine without any issues but my battery light stays on! Any suggestions??
Well so far all I have done is pull the battery and left it on trickle charge for about 12 hours. The battery light has not come back on and my ABS light went off which was an entirely different problem I wasnt sure about either lol. I also havent driven it down the road so well see......
It could have damaged one of the cells. It happened to me with the yellow top. The red's have more cranking power. Maybe it just needed a good trickle charge.
Red and Yellow tops are great batteries... doubt you hurt it, but it is possible. Usually they have a warranty on them... might consider checking with the auto parts store you bought it from and see if its covered still. Then have them test it...
