I know abendx has the A-Pillar handle on the driver's side (from his gallery photo), and I was going to email him personally about it. I thought maybe others would like to know about it so I am asking him here.
Dude,
Where did you get the A-Pillar handle? How much? How much work is it to install? My '00 F-250 doesn't have any factory anchor points behind the trim. Does your '02? Did you have to weld an anchor point? Any other hints or tips?
the drivers side a-pillar handle is the best thing i think i have done to my truck.... it makes getting in 100% easier (even if she wasn't jacked it would be a big boon!).
anyhow..... this is what i did.
got the handle and the hardware from my local ford dealer. be sure to request the hardware (screws) and screw hole caps as they do not come with the handle. total price was around $25. you will also have to get four speed nuts as they do not come with the ford hardware.
i have a friend taht has a body shop and he did the work for me (cost was a couple of beers and a burger).... but i did help him do the work and it was nice to have the tools he had in his shop.....
- pull off the pass side handle
- measured the trim panel's holes
- pull the driver's side trim panel
- mark off handle holes from measurements on pass side
- cut out the holes on the drivers side trim panel
- place trim panel back up and push the handle into place
- mark off the bolt holes for the a-pillar thru the handle
- pull off trim panel and drill holes
- put in the speed nuts
- put the trim panel back on
- screw in the handle
took us about an hour to complete the job and the handle is nice and sturdy.
i figure if i had done this at home, it would have taken me a tad over two hours with a dremel tool and a drill.
Thanks for the advice. I ordered the schtuff from the local Ford Garage. Old high screwl buddy is the parts guy -- still no "bro" deal on them, though. I hope the parts are in for the weekend. Looks like rain and a great chance to takle this little job.
I think I'm going to do this on mine also.
Why didn't ford offer this as an standard/option?
They lost out, could have made more $

Forty,
Sure. If I get really crafty I might even post some digipics of the install. I picked up the parts yesterday, and might even try to do the install this weekend. That is unless my Social Governess has other plans!
Big.
PS What is wrong with drinking lots o coffee (black gold)? We don't have a Starbucks (egad!) but we have lots o' local coffee houses and even a coffee roaster. I can get juiced up on coffee with the best of em. We just don't have the parking lots filled with pink pantied gals:-(
Hey Big,

Dude....My handle came in yesterday. I got a question for ya. will I'm sure this will make more sense to me after I get my trk and can get a look at the passenger side handle, but anyway.....they gave me the handle, two caps for the handle and four nuts. Question is, how the heck do these nuts, if they are nuts, work?? They're rectangular with what appears to be a small keyway on each side, hole in the middle and the hole is not threaded. Never saw a nut like this before I got no bolts and they told me that the bolts are no longer available and that I could probably get them at my hardware store, just match them to the one's in the other handle The only thing I can think of is that the bolts must be self-tappers? Can you shed any lite my way. Thx
