I recently got rid of one of my Explorers, and bought myself a Expedition, It had 146,000 on it, but the price was right ($6900 for a loaded EB 4x4), The Truck runs great, and dosent seem to have any mechanical issues, But I was wondering how long the Average 4.6 lasts with propper maintence.
Also, I Had to put New tires on it recently, the other ones (goodyear Wranglers) had feathered and was creating a "whump Whump" noise at low speeds between 25-40 mph. The tire guy said that it is common for Expeditions to have tire problems. Just wondering if any of you had the same problem.
Can't comment on the 4.6 but both of my 5.4's have been great. One was right at 100k when I sold it and the other is at 55k.
As far as tires go...what kinda bs is that about Expeditions having tire problems? Car's don't usually cause tire problems...or at least not in my 25 years of driving......or at least not w/o the owner causing the problem (i.e. putting too wide of tires on a front end, etc.).
Sounds like he/she was lazy about rotating and balancing...if you do that tires are tires and will last as long as your driving habits let them...
Almost 60k on my Wrangler RT/S and they wear evenly. Most problems are from lack of preventative maintanence and worn suspension parts. Lower Ball joints tend to be a big culprit...may want to check them and have her aligned.
Cars don't have tire problems, they do have owner maintenance problems. That guy/gal was giving you a line of BS. You weren't wearing your Mickey Mouse club shirt that day were you? :-) Don't go back to that shop for anyting, they are showing their own ignorance.
Check suspension parts for wear, set alignment within specs and tire pressures at specs or higher levels, and certified spin balanced. Keep in mind that if tires wear unevenly, there is no correcting it. They just keep on wearing unevenly even after the cause is fixed.
