they make a damn good product..has anyone else ever ran over one or something? heard about somethign one tiem about how ou could run over a fulsize maglight with a semi and it would be fine? anyone ever tried this
Put one on a 48 foot flatbed Tractor Trailer, then let the crane operator decide he is going to load you by dropping a 30,000 pound sheet of flat plate steel on your trailer from about 5 feet.
Yep, flatter then a pancake at a McDonald's drive-thru window.
Maglight-indestructable? Ofcourse it can be detroyed, you just have to work at it.

The sad thing is...
I didn't know I left it there. I was thinking someone broke into my truck & stole my light, but it seemed strange because I my cash & electronic were left behind.
It was five days later when I had that steel pulled off and saw it. I usually use dunnage (4X4 Lumber) to hold the steel up off the trailer bed & give it space for better securement, but that whole load was strange. They wanted it loaded flat on the bed for some reason.
I've a mini one on my keychain for probably 5 years, I've beaten that thing seriously, and it still works! You got to give it to them for making a hard core product.
well, i know my whole base uses maglights for every aspect of aircraft maintenance, and they are used on board ships....take a licking and keep on ticking
I have left them on the bumper and lost them going down the highway, ran over them, bailed one up in a square bale, done a hundred other things that would destroy any other flash light and never have had to do any thing other than the odd bulb change and once a year of so change the batteries. I love them and they are the only flashlight I will ever buy.
Well, for the mini-mag's... Drop them in the St. Lawrence seaway, that won't kill em, but you'll never find it to know the difference.
Also killed one of them by dropping something heavy on it, but for the life of me can't remember what.
Now the old 6 cell, that one will be buried with me, I just can't kill it. I think in all the years I've had it I've gone through 3 bulbs...
Bummer. I lost 2 mini's last year, they just up and quit. #1 would work sometimes if you smacked it just right, but #2 was brain dead. I replaced batteries & bulbs on both with no change. So I gave up and bought a new one, they are pretty cheap after all. As all of you now, know they are not indestructable. For that you would have to buy a Pelican Light.
My 3-D-cell has survived 4 years in my trunk & 2 years in a wrecker--that kinda says it all, I think. I also have a 2-D-cell that I keep in my glovebox (3-cell is too long). My big one has ben run over (I once held it still by putting the wrecker's front tire on it), dropped from a garage roof, & most recently bounced down a rocky slope into a muddy creek. The black finish is pretty worn, but it still works. All I've had to do was replace the bulb once (after the garage stunt).
I also keep a tiny Solitare (1 AAA battery) on my keychain.
My uncle has a 6-cell (which doubles as a handy "idiot stick" at dark rest areas at 2am) he used to carry when driving rigs long-haul. It's survived being run over by a backhoe, dropped off the roof of a COE Kenworth, being buried in a snowbank for 2 months, & getting dropped into a bucket of really-disgusting engine oil. It's a good 20 years old, & he still carries it. The paint is essentially a memory, though.
It loses focus. the beam no longer focuses into one spot like it used to.
The little rubber thing over the "on/off" switch comes loose.
Sometimes it just cuts out when turned on, I have to shake it to get it to work.
That's the big ones, I have a little one which I dropped into the engine fan and it still works. It too sometimes cuts out. It needs an on swtich instead of twisting the head.
