Question trailer plug 4 mntneer

List,
I have a small camper with a 7 pin connector. The trailer does have electric brake and I would like to make use of them. Ive decied to pull it with my 2000 Mountaineer. Ford says that all of the 2000 and newer explorer based vehicles come standard with the harness need to wire a trailer. My question is, does the factroy harness support a seven pin connector that runs the trailer brakes. Or is it ment for a 4 pin connector only. Also is it prewired for a brake controler? Ive been told that you have to use a 7 pin connector to run the trailer brakes, is this true? I dont know if it matters but the truck is v8, a.w.d., with limited slip rear diff.
Thanks
MIke

If it was a factory option, it is the 4-pin connector. If it is located in the same place as my 2001's, it is under the driver's side tail light. (Reachable from underneath - gray plug). If it wasn't capped, like mine, you'll have to either replace it, or wire straight in. The copper connectors corrode easily.

I don't know about the brakes. Never had to use them, but seems that I read that there is a separate connector under the dash for that. Search around online and you should be able to find it.
