E5 Windsor heads

Can anyone tell me what is a safe limit for milling a pair of '85 Windsor (stock) cylinder heads? I need to shave mine approx. .040", will this cause any problems?

I have been told that every .007 inches removed equates to about 2cc. Is this correct?

if you have to mill too much off the head you will also have to mill your intake manifold, your machine shop can advise youthe exact amounts.
