Looking at a Focus, anybody ever drive the SVT?

I will be changing positions within my job soon. Gonna a need a daily that gets good mileage cause' I commute 50 miles one way. Wife drives a Jetta, great little car, but I'm a loyal type of guy. Gonna have to get a Blue oval if I can. I had a Festiva and loved it. She was tiny, but really perky and got great mileage too boot. Danged dear at 60+ ended that realtionship. I don't know anybody with a Focus, heard a Zetec motor is a must. Is that a sport model motor? Like only in the ZTS or whatever trimline it is? Is that the 2 liter that the car comes with? OR is that a more potent and reliable motor? I would like the car to have some zip power for the highway, like the looks of the 2 door hatch. Gonna half to be a stick, no auto for me please. Saw a SVT on TV, how much more do they run in cost? Any thoughts or comments are great. Later.

ANY Focus is a blast to drive; if you liked the Jetta, then you'll feel right at home. The SVT is the ULTIMATE Focus, and you can absolutely steal a leftover '03. They sticker for Approx. $20-21000 with a moonroof, but you can buy one for $14-14500 with all the incentives.

I would LOVE to own a SVT Focus! Except I have heard that they are going to stop making the SVT version of it. 1956 MarkII can you let me know if this is true or not?

Sad but true. 2004 is the last year for the SVT Focus. R.I.P., little buddy.

Jessfactor thanks for the site. Went there started messing around, put together a Black Focus 3 door, w/ 2.3L and a stick, air as an option. Then it let me search for cars. Looked new and didn't find anything, but did a used search and looky here. A used SVT silver in color, 2002 w/ 21,400 miles roughly, 6spd manuel, certified at a dealer about 1/2 hour away. Very clean and nice looking. I'm not really ready yet, but I may just stop in there Monday to have a look. They are asking something like 14,300. Very workable, in my price range. You know 5_labs, I would have agreed with you the first couple years they were out, but the last year or two they have grown on me. I don't think they are the sharpest looking car out there, but it's better looking than my old Festiva was. Thanks for the replies, Later.

No, No, NO!!!! A used SVT is a GUARANTEED beaten-to-death vehicle! Re-read my post: you can buy a BRAND-NEW 2003 SVT for that price!! (Oh, Lord, I hope he reads this BEFORE he goes down to that dealer!)

I'm on here every day, thanks for the heads up. I just re-read it and saw what I missed the first time. I fgured a new one would push twenty big ones. I'm not one to jump at anything, but I'm very glad you posted about them getting beatin up on. I'm not the type, but I can see a guy tearing it up like he's at Nascar. Thanks for the words of wisdom 1956 MArkII. I will be careful. But I do want to drive it anyway, see how it feels. Maybe I'll drive the Gal up and see if I can fit the Focus in the trunk. Later

You can get the Zetec engine as an option in the SE version, cheaper on insurance than ZTS version. The Zetec is DOHC version of the 2.0L. It's pretty decent with a 5 speed, my wife and I just bought a 2001 SE 4 door, because Junior/Mini-me/Little Chad is coming in 10 short weeks.
