I recently got a 68 F- 100 . I was wondering what kind of exhuast options I have for sound , performance, and mileage. I would like to have a good tone. What would i have to do to run duals? Truck has 360 ci ,3 speed tranny, 2bbl. carb
For really good sound in my oppinion go with Flowmaster 40 Series (not delta flow) mufflers dumped under the bed. you could run dual 2 1/4" or dual 2 1/2" pipes off your stock manafolds to the mufflers or you could buy headers. Most online performance stores or catalogs will list headers for your application. And any local exhaust shop could fab. up the pipes for you.
i just had my 70 done last monday, i got 2 1/4 with the flowmasters, from manifold to dumping out the backend for 350 bucks. give a nice sound when getting on it and a nice even quiet sound when sitting at idle
hey if ur poor like me, or shall i say, "on a budget" u can be creative and still get performance. my exhaust went as far as the muffler, half of which had fallen off. actually sounded good , but the fumes... anyway i got a $17 glasspak at autozone and two clamps, and took some scrap pipes from a mustang. i just hackasawed the old muffler out and clamped the glasspak in, then put a side exit pipe by the tire well. redneck deluxe !doesnt have the nice tone of dual flowmasters, but u cant beat the performance or price and it dont interfere with my 2nd gas tank. i know i'll get yelled at for not welding every seam, but hey they all seal up when they get hot
to be honest the performace of a flowmaster and the other there isnt much diffrence it all sound.....just get some turbos and then when you can afford it put the flowmasters on I put some turbos and they "broke in" and it sounds great (dumped under the bed give a real rumble and well sence i have the big block give the big block sound............
Dan, as bad as hate to admit, I was really considering that. I didnt wont to post it tho in fear of being made fun of . I tell you what tho I had a 79 f-150 when i was 15 that i did that to and I thought it was awesome. Now 11 years later i will more than likely do it again. At least for a while. thanks man .talk to you later
I just took some straghit 2 1/2 pipe and clapmed the pipe to the headers and the muffler to the pipes(hung them also) and then put dumps on the muffler only cost me the price of the mufflers like 17 a peace.....I was gona do that Cause well I am a redneck and dang proud......but I have headers on my 70' and I like them so put them on and ran the pipe...looks pro sounds pro and well cheap...if you want rumble then dump it under the bed staight down 'southern pride"
