V8 or V10?
I am currently driving a Chevy C 3500 (regular cab) with the 350 engine in it. That was an upgrade from a C 1500 (regular cab) with a 4.3L V6 in it. Although the 350 provided much more power the fuel mileage of the two trucks (both the same model year) was nearly identical. The 4.3 was so overworked that it's mileage was not impressive to say the least!
As some have mentioned in this discussion... there does not appear to be a statistical difference in fuel mileage between the V8 and V10 in the SuperDuty. In fact, it does not even appear to be consistant for similarly equipped trucks with identical engines.
If you continue to post your mileage and basic truck setups, I will continue to compile a fuel mileage spreadsheet and will report back to the group when I get enough data to get some resonable averages..
BTW... Between my dad and myself, our last three trucks have been Chevys and have had extensive problems with all of them. We haven't owned any Ford products in years. He changed over to an F-150 a couple of weeks ago and I'll soon be ordering my F-250. Lets hope Ford doesn't let us down!

here is the shift pattern:

i highly recomend manual trannies in big trucks. it just dont make since to me to by a truck made fer pulling to have an auto. plus when the girls say "can i drive yer cool truck" i just reply "its a stick but ill give ya a ride"
. but thats all MHO.-nathan
I have been driving a F350-SD 6.8L V-10, 4.10 gears, 4WD, DRW, Supercab for the last two weeks (My F150 5.4L work truck is in the shop, no probelms just 150k service and or company mechanic has been busy working on a couple excavators so I been driving one of or Formen's company truck till I get mine back)
Anyway, this thing flat has da bells. plenty of passing power and great get up and go. My F150 would whip her in a race (unloaded) but of course the 150 weighs in about 2000 Lbs lighter (empty) so that is expected. But when I put a load on this thing (only about 1100 in the bed) she didn't even know it was there. Mileage didn't drop either, of course CAN it be possible to get to much worse 11.5 MPG vs my F150's 16.5 MPG.
I know, the 150 couldn't haul the tires that the real truck rides on!!

From the behind-the-screen copy of your message it appears the R is off to the left by itself, not the 6 as shows up in the post. I have had that problem with leading spaces/tabs collapsing when I post. Is first a granny gear that normally is only used with a load?

You have a good point. I don't really want anyone driving my truck. And I don't buy this garbage where a someone buys an automatic tranny truck because "the wife can't drive a stick." These folks all have more than one vehicle in their household and I tell them, "forget the wife, she has her own car, you go out and get a stick."
It gets about 10 miles in the city and about 14 on the highway. I reccommend the v10 if you plan on towing anything over long distances. If you're going to use it around town to haul gravel, wood, or for fishing as I use it, you can't beat the v8. Remember, the reason a v10 gets such lousy mileage is because you burn a lot of fuel at idle while you're waiting for the stoplight to turn green.

I have a 2002 f350 w/v10. I have only had it about a month. I am getting 12.5 to 13 mpg. That is driving both city and highway. I would think it would go up if you drove mostley highway.
dang maybe i had better get out of here before all you gasser gang up on me lol take care and happy trails oh by the way if it says super duty on the side of your truck you have bought a good one.
