Talking building a top

i was thinking about building a fastback style top for my 84, what i thought about doing was bending some angle iron (lay it down so it has a verticle side pointing up on the outside of the vehicle, looking from the back it will look like an L on the drivers side) to match the mounting surface so it would bolt on. the wed a bar from tetop front to the back, get and cut to size a piece of canvas and install buttons around the perimiter so it could snap on and off,nd if posibe get some of the same plastic they use on convertables for a back window, then dye it to match. what do yu think? I hope I wrote this well enough for everybody to understand.

You may want to do a search on a user in the Bronco forum named greystreak92. If I remember correctly he did a post about this last summer? (sometime around there).

Edit: Actually I think he put a soft-top in the hard top if that makes any sense

I think his goal is to build one where you dont have to drill holes in the body. The only top like that is the Toneou (sp?) cover that uses rails bolted into the stock top holes and velcro-type hook and loop system.

That is just what I gathered.... Good idea if you ask me. I think all the manufacturers of tops should have gone that direction. I GARAUNTEE they would have had more sales if people didnt have to drill holes in their Broncs.

My $0.02

i remember graystreaks top with the sliding top (it reminded me of beetles and the old duece coupes) but i was looking to remove the top completely, and the link that billybob has up is what im looking for, but if i had the $400 my bronco would get a lift on it instead, and i also dont want to drill holes in the one part of my broncos body that is actually in good shape! im just looking for a cheaper alternative.
