Radiator leaking

Hey guys,

On my 92 Ex the radiator leaks on the passenger side. I havent been able to really spot where its leaking from, but after short trips theres always a puddle underneath it. It doesnt seem to leak much after long trips. My best guess is that its the seals, because its much worse in the winter than in the summer, and not as bad after long trips. I've had the seals replaced before but that didnt really seem to fix it. I've had to add almost a gallon of antifreeze since Christmas. It's getting annoying. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Mine has the same problem but it doesn't leak quite that much. My dads suburban had that problem too and he had to replace the radiator. If you do replace it they might try to sell you a mexican made one, don't buy it. They are alot cheeper but the suck and they only have like a two year warranty. Thats what my dad did just over two years ago and now its really leaking. We tried that stop leak but it came out like a chunky syrup and a think it screwed up his cooling system, so i wouldn't recomend that.

It's probably the glue between the plastic tank and the radiator core. This is not really a servicible item so it's time for a new radiator. I bought a new Modine for my Ranger a couple of years ago; I paid about $130 from Schucks. Don't use stop leak as a repair; it will temporarily seal the leak but when the weather get's warm in a few months the added pressure will cause the system to fail and probably at an inconvenient time. I can say this from experience. Only use stop leak for emergency repairs. As was noted, don't buy the cheap "hencho en Mehico" radiator unless you are planning on selling the rig very soon.

Here's something to try, that I have been successful with a few times. IF your rad is leaking at the seam between the tank and the core, try recrimpring the tabs around the tanks. After so many years on your vehicle, and thousands of thermal cycles, the crimps may relax and promote leaks. If it doesn't work for you, then you're out a couple gallons of anti freeze, and an hour or two of your time, but if it does work, you just saved a couple hundred bucks!
Good luck

Had the same problem. I pulled the rad. and there was a hair line crack right in the neck. Most rad. shops will try to sell you a whole rad. just replace the one tank thats cracked.
