Anyone out there running Win XP Pro + Norton Systemworks Pro? If so, did your PC take a big performance hit like they do if you run Win 98SE + Norton Systemworks? I've heard that XP is a better OS for Norton and the performance doesn't take nearly the hit. Feedback? Thanx.
I heard a computer guru say not to use Systemworks but to use the individual programs instead. I had it on a win 98 system. One of the hard drives developed bad sectors and Systemworks went insane.
Systemworks is not a good program Mike W is right just get the individual programs you need and you will then not have so many problems. Systemworks try to sometimes fix things on your system that are not even broken or need fixing.
Unfortunately, you can not buy the items seperate any more.
I would uninstall Cleansweep and goback. Leave the rest on your system.
However, other than the AV and Firewall programs, I would not let anything run in the background, an example would be system monitor. If you need to monitor something you can do that for a short time without having it use up resources all the time.
For what its worth, I ran Norton with XP pro and had major issues. System would shut down, lockup, and not run properly. Did the old uninstall to Norton Systemworks...... box runs as good as new.
I run W-XP and Systemworks but I use a custom install and only install the parts I want. I also turn off anything automatic. The only full time protection I use is for email. The new virus definitions must be huge because it takes forever to scan my computer nowadays and just a few months ago it was fairly quick. A month or so ago I ran live update and the update crashed my computer. I had to reinstall Windows.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I had a somewhat dissapointing experience on my old pc with norton systemworks, even with all of the "extras" shut down. I guess I'm gonna install it on my new pc and remove the "extras"/do a custom install as was suggested. I'll do a backup beforehand so I can restore if things go wild. I'm also in really good shape on the RAM; 1 GB on dual channel, thank you ASUS , (2 X 512MB DDR 400) so it shouldn't be a problem.
