Rusty Driveshaft

I looked under my 2003 Excursion and see that the driveshaft is completely rusted. Is this the norm? Are they ever painted & if so with what? Thanks.

I remember someone else asking about this on a 2004 F150, the answer was that it is completely normal...

It's normal. Take a wire brush drill attachment to it and get out your can of black rust-o-leum. Check the driveshaft shot in my profile.

My driveshaft got rusty due to very infrequent use.

There were times I had to manually lube it but once I got married the rust went away.

Boy, just the opposite for me. Great until I got married, o.k. until the kids, and now very rusty.
