I use my 4wd more than the average super duty owner and at 133k I never needed to grease my front driveshaft slip joint. I've checked it and it's still plenty lubed still from the factory
Upon installation if you removed it its good practice to clean the OD of the yoke and apply some trans fluid so it slips past the seal with out tearing it. The ID gets lubed from the inside by trans fluid wicking in from the tail shaft so no need to lube but if its dry it cant hurt it to toss some in there too. About a tea spoon will do.
What do yous own jeeps? A Ford doesn't have the driveshaft slid into the tcase, it bolts to the flange. Ford uses a special Teflon grease applied to the slip joint that you can buy at your local Ford dealer

My Super Duty LB has a 2 piece drive shaft.
The front half slides into the tail housing.

I've not used the Ford Teflon grease for the rear slip yoke. I use synthetic bearing grease about once a year or whenever the clunk-clunk starts up.
When I got the clunk around 70k I used synthetic multipurpose grease and it didn't work, then I used synthetic wheel bearing grease my cousin gave me and after two days it came back. Went to the dealer after learning on here Ford has a special Teflon grease for the slip joint, got the toothpaste looking tube an it's been fine now and I have 133k. I do regrease it once a year just to make sure it stays quiet iPhone from IB AutoGroup

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll be stopping by my dealership next week for some driveshaft toothpaste...
The part number is XG-8. One full tube does it. I did a write up on it as far as how to get the Oetiker clamps off and how to reuse them. Other wise you'll need the boot kit from Ford $50 for 2 clamps and a boot. Then you still need Ortiker pliers to pinch the clamps. Note: This link was originally composed when I had the 08. I had to do the same thing to the current 2011 with the 6.2 and 6R140. Cant edit old posts apparently?
We likely need a sticky write up on this seeing as it takes Ford about 20 years to engineer out a problem. Id be happy to do a formal write up for said sticky...moderators?
