I am looking for a vehicle security system that shuts off the fuel supply, not just the fuel pump, and can be activated with the OEM key fob remote.
I don't want flashing lights and sirens that only annoy the neighbors, I want the vehicle disabled.
This is a great site with knowledgable people that I hope can help in my search
Never heard of such a beast. To get both fuel cutoff and work with the OEM fob is a tall order to fill. I've heard of a replacement solenoid that kills the fuel supply, but it doesn't use the factory fob.
BTW, what's the difference between shutting off the fuel supply and disabling the fuel pump? Either way, the truck won't run very long.
Well NoMo, my reasoning is that a fuel pump disconnect could be bypassed at the fuse box but a normally closed solenoid valve in the fuel line, controlled by radio signal, would be more difficult to defeat.
Of course a thief could cut the valve out of the line and replace it with tubing.
IMO, anti-theft devices/systems are primarily to keep the "kids" from taking the vehicle for a joyride. These rookie car thiefs aren't likely to stick around and bypass fuel pump cutoff switches or relays. If a "pro" really wants your truck, they'll probably just winch it on a flatbed and haul it off. If they want it to run, they'll mess with getting it started at a more convienient location. Usually, it's just scrapped for parts so they don't care if it starts or not.
About the best thing you can get is a Lo-Jack (sp?) device that tracks your truck. It doesn't prevent theft, but it sure helps with recovery.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Apr-02 AT 11:46 AM (EST)]Hey guys, check out [link:www.clifford.com|clifford alarms] for a wireless fuel pump immobilizer!
Thank you Weldman. The Clifford line looks good on the net. Will contact one of there distributors tomorrow. Like NoMo says,if a pro really wants it he will haul it but a device like this will make me feel better.
weldman is right, Clifford is the way to go!
I have a Clifford Avantguard III installed in my '97 F-350 and it has been broken into several times, twice the dash has been destroyed in an attempt to steal it, but it has never been stolen. I just picked up an '02 SD F-350 and have ordered an avantguard IV for it. the whole Clifford line is good, but make sure if you opt for the Avantguard that you call DEI and get the name of a dealer in your area that has installed the Avantguard before. Installing the wiring harness is a full day job and you certainly don't want the tech "learning" on your truck!
