Hi I was wondering why my 79 351 M constantly runs between 75 and 100 psi (I think its more than 100 but my guage only goes to 100). I've actually blown out 3 Oil filters. The first time the filter body came all the way off of the part that screws onto the block. The other times it just blew out the seal. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
Constantly? You mean hot idle it's 75psi? Something might be wrong. I'd suspect the pump bypass is stuck, or you have a high pressure / high volume oil pump. If the latter, get a K&N oil filter, they can handle the higher pressure. What oil viscosity are you running? You could get away with 5w30 in that engine easily.
Ya I've been stockpiling K&N filters. I used to not have to worry about when to change my oil cause the filter would blow out and I'd have to do it anyway haha. The weird thing is that this is the second oil pump I've had on this truck. It might drop a lil below 75 at hot idle but not much. I've never seen it below 70 unless I forget to check the oil and it's almost gone. I've tried every weight oil I can find and nothin works. But I think I'm gonna just get a new engine anyways this one is nothin but trouble. I have a collection of weird **** thats come off of this engine. I have the exploded oil filter and out of the top like a bouquet are some pushrods that mysteriously bent into an S-shape (on two seperate occasions)
