Fuel Pressure Gauge Install Problem

I am having a problem that I read about here a while back with my fuel pressure gauge install. I installed a 100 psi glow gauge, using an itp hose adapter, which I attached to the pressure test port on the fuel filter.

My gauge just reads 100psi. I have checked the wiring and bled the hose several times and even ground the unit to the battery, but it still reads 100 psi.

Someone reported this same problem with this same set of equipment, but I have searched for it and can't find it.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I read a constant 100psi?

Get a mechanical gauge (perhaps with a y or t adapter) to see what the actual reading is.

If it is not 100 (almost certain), start working backwards from bad sensor, wire / wiring / connections, gauge, etc.

My instructions say that the guage will read 100 if there is not a good ground.

Very intrested in your outcome...I have the model GS-W711_FS and have the ITP hose enroute to me ...should be here on Tuesday. Let me know if I have to ship the Glowshift gauge back before I install it. Good looking kit...just would like it to work. Only paid $56.99 shipped.

Ok here is what I have learned. The gauge works good in that it goes to zero when the wire from the sender is grounded and it goes to 100 whenever the wire from the gauge to the sender is hooked up. Glo gauge said that they suspect that I have a bad sender. They are sending me a new one. I will tell you if that solves the problem in a few days when I get the new sender unit.

Thanks. Also would you mind running down where you connect the four wires? I know the black is ground (body), but how did you run your switched and constant hots...yellow to the battery directly with inline fuse and red to an open circuit (add-a-circuit) on the fuse panel? I'd also like to see how you mounted it...on the a-pillar or column pod?

Where are you guys mounting your fuel pressure gauges? If on the inside of the truck dont you need an isolator or something??

The ones we're talking about use an electronic sender unit which remains within the engine compartment, then an electrical lead runs into the cab where the gauge is mounted. The lead from ITP Diesel allows you to tap into the fuel bowl test port and divert the sender unit over to the driverside bulkhead.

I removed my trans temp gauge from my Isspro 3 guage pillar mount and put the Glowshift fuel pressure gauge in it's place. It would only fit in the top hole because it's too deep to maneuver into the other holes. Overall I'm very happy with it. My fuel pressure is 62 and drops to 58 on hard acceleration.

barnbridge...if you don't mind sharing (and to save me time)...where did you connect your Hot constant (yellow) wire...and where did you connect your Hot switched (KO) (red) wire? Did you use an add-a-circuit and tie into your in cab fuse panel for the red wire? Thanks....appreciate any feedback.

I already had two gauges in a pillar mount (EGT & Tran Temp). To mount my fuel pressure gauge I purchased a pillar mount that held three gauges.

For the ground I found a screw already holding a ground wire on the engine side of the fire wall right right above where I ran my wires through the fire wall. I put my ground wire on that same screw. For the yellow wire I bought a fuze holder for a blade fuze that I put inline in the yellow wire. I already had a switched hot wire for my other gauges (that I did not install) so I just attached my red wire to that.

Now everything works but the pressure reading. The glow gage is really neat when glowing in the dark, I am hoping a new pressure sensor will enable me to read something besides zero and 100.

Sounds great...can you tell me which fuse or location on the panel your switched hot is tied into?

Also a little word of warning if you are going to use the ITP hose the adapter may be a little large. It may have been they just shipped the wrong adapter for the fuel test port but I had to use a dremmel tool to grind just a little off the fuel pressure housing to clear the hex part of the adapter. Also the O ring they provided on the adapter was a little smaller gauge then the one on the stock test port plug and I felt the adapter bottomed out before I had a good seal. Not wanting to take a chance I used the O ring off the stock plug and it felt better (had tension before the adapter bottomed out). Just my experience but it may come in handy.

Another thought instead of using a dremmel you might want to be prepared to do the BB mod also and get them both done at the same time. Pretty sure most if not all PS could use the BB mod and it is much easier to bump a little of the fuel pressure regulator housing on a bench grinder of file vs the dremmel.
