I have a '99 Ford Ranger with a 2.5L 4cyl engine. The problem I've been experiencing is that the engine is barely warming up and the heater isn't working that good because of it. I called my local autoparts store and they said they couldn't find a thermostat for it in the catalog. I popped the hood while I was there and myself and the guy at the store looked and it doesn't look like the engine has a thermostat. the only thing we could figure was that it had an electronic valve of some sort.
What is the best thing I can do to troubleshoot and fix the problem??
I had the same problem when I bought mine, somebody replaced the thermostat and put it in backwards. On my 94 2.3l the thermostat is 'under' the top radiator hose. If you follow the hose from the radiator to the block your thermostat should be under the metal housing the hose ataches to. quick check would be to remove the top radiator hose at the block and using a flash light see if the thermostat is open and go from there.
Ok, I finally got the right thermostat and put it in today. Truck warms up like it is supposed to and runs fine...BUT now the heater blows cold air. Before the thermostat change it would at least blow warm air.
Does anyone have any idea what would cause this?
