It is a sensor on the top of the rear end that tells the computer how fast the truck is going. It is also used for the Rear Anti-lock Brake System (RABS).
Do you have a problem with it or are just curious?
NO, but the computer does. Mine will only go 98 because of the governor, but the sensor doesnt cause that, it basically just runs your speedometer. Instead of a cable it is a digital signal from the sensor.
Well i dont know. Some trucks seem to not have governors, but mine definitely has one at 98 mph. It doesnt limit the RPM's though (at least i dont think it does)
There are several companies that make them. I personally dont have one, but i want one. They do more than raise (or remove) the governor. They delay the timing so you can run premium fuel, and also make the tranny shift better. The donwside is that with most chips you HAVE to run premium fuel. With gas prices these days, regular unleaded is bad enough.
