Push button above ignition switch

I was asked a while back about the push button just above the ignition switch on the 65 F100. I thought it was for the windshield washer pump. Is this correct?

Thanks
Chris

The windshield washer pump is what my two trucks used it for (both '66) even though my wiper switch has a pump set of contacts in it also.

mine makes a honking noise.....I honestly thought it was the horn.....wow....

here's a question for ya....I have a small metal toggle switch between the light/wiper assembly and the steering column. What would that have been for?

Dan that was for the Nitro...it came stock with banjo's ejector switch!!! heh heh

Sounds like an add-on to me. I saw a little toggle switch on a 65 dash I was stripping...and turns out it was for his 'running' lights...or whatever those funky looking lights on the top of the cab are called.

Those lights are "Low Bridge Ahead" detectors.

It's for the horn on mine----it makes a little buzzing noise when you press it! My 66 has a screw-eye on the bottom of the dash, next to the steering column. I swear the new trucks had this in 66. Was it always there, or is it to hook your bungi cord onto?

Biggut, the buzzing you hear is probably the pump for the washer fluid.

My pushbutton switch is for the cigarette lighter. never seen anything like that. Then again, I've never seen things like I've seen on this old Ford.

Sounds like a few of you have wiring ghosts to figure out. The button is the HORN button, some of you may have a foot switch near the dimmer switch to operate the w/w fluid pump, others may not even be lucky to have a truck so equipped. For the guy with the signal lever falling, check with NDP http://www.npdlink.com/ and order the guts for inside your steering column that keep the lever in place, it's likely missing a piece or two on the inside.

I have a '66 and the button I believe the original poster was referring to was wired to an inoperable washer pump which I have since replaced. My horn is activated by pressing on the cap in the center of the steering wheel, which if I had to guess, is definitly original.

WOW!! I guess that little black button above the ignition swith is what ever you want it to be!! But I'm pretty sure its for the washer fluid but mine does not work at this moment, as for the horn my steering wheel has the horn ring on it and it does not work either. I think I just may have to install an "OOGAH" horn just for kicks and giggles !

my horn button is the cap in the center of the steering wheel; it even works now that I've got the column shaft down where it belongs so the brush makes contact. If you have a very large gap between your steering wheel and the shift bell; the brush isn't long enough to bridge that gap, and the horn ring won't honk the horn. I pushed the shaft back down where it belongs, and fastened a clamp around it at the bottom of the column.
