i was thinking about getting involved in racing at 1-76 speedway, our local dirt track. we have an 84 olds cutlass out here, that i was thinking about building to run in econo im not looking to be super competative, (but it would be nice to get people worrying) now heres the only problem- i've never raced on an oval before, and may need some help with vehicle requirements for what im not familier with. http://www.i76speedway.com/default.htm
I'd get a rear wheel drive car. A crown vic with the 302 is a great oval track racer. Most tracks actually ban the 302, and make you use a 351W. The 302 is too easy to make monstrous torque out of.
actually i have a can that needs something to be done w/ it its an 84 olds (rwd) that had the v-6 in it, i was thinking about just dropping a v8 and trans into it, doing the the rest of the conversion, or thres a guy at my school planning on selling his race car, but dont know much about it.
crown vic's dont' do so good at my local track for some reason. It's mostly the old novas, chevelles, dusters, cutlass, monte carlo, and regals and there is one torino that holds it's own against the gm products, but definatly does not domintate
I race on a paved track but a Cutlass does make a decent race car. At our track though the Camaros and Novas do work better. My car has a Crown Vic chassis and I have won lots with it. They can be made to work
I've always seen the GM guys and the Ford guys at the track, most of the Ford guys run Crown vics, and a few run Galaxies and Torinos, and there is one Falcon driver that wins all the races. I will say that its not the car, but the river, especially when competeing in a mostly SBC race.
what worries me about the cutlass we have is the suspention, im not sure if the v6 suspention is up to racing or a v-8, grandpa, why couldn't you get an 8?
