i went to auto parts store today and shut truck off to go in
1987 BII eddie Bauer
was fine when i came out to start it it started fine but starter stayed engaged
so i got out and bumped the solonoid and it stopped
but when i went to restart the truck it cranks but no firing
i took coil wire off coild and got it turned over and got zapped but doesnt seem to be firing to plugs ??
any ideas
Distributor, maybe. Mine did kinda the same thing, and after I replaced the starter, all the terminals for the coil, the distributor cap, all the plug wires and plugs. I finally figgured out that I was not getting fuel, due to the external fuel pump's wire connections. That may sound stupid but mine showed almost the exact same signs, and your getting zapped story sounds the same too. Take an extra plug, ground it and plug your #1 plug wire in to it and have some one turn the truck over, with your garage lights off you should see spark. If not its an ignition problem, or a computer problem. If you have spark, make sure you have fuel. Mine has an attachment on the intake drivers side that resembles a valve stem, just remove the cap and push the inner valve to relive fuel pressure, if fuel squirts out then you have good fuel pressure, if not that may be your problem. Good luck with it
If I understand correctly you have spark from the coil to the distributor but no spark out of the distributor. Is the distributor turning when you crank it??
Ok heres an easy thing to check. happened to me a few times. Check the RED lead from the starter relay on the inside fender wall. Its a small lead connected to the relay just above the two battery connections. If the line is loose or damaged in any way you will get the engine to crank , fuel and spark but it will not start.
I don't know why but it does fix the problem sometimes.
