Exclamation Dealership kindness

Some here might know that i just bought this truck recent at a dealership, well they just called me and want to put a new inspection sticker on it for free so when can i bring it in?.The sticker is good for another couple months but since i live in one of those rugged inspection counties i'm having a feeling that once they get the truck in and it doesn't pass, they will fix whatever is wrong and make me pay before i can get it back.I've never had a dealer call me before and treat me with this kindness with any vehicle.Am i missing something here or just being over cautious?.
TIA

It does sound like maybe the dealership is doing it as a promo, possibly hoping to get some work out of it, but as long as you make sure that any repairs must be authorized by you first, I don't see it being too much of a risk.

I would also make sure that you get a copy of the results of any emissions tests performed so that way you can draw your own conclusions as to what needs to be fixed, and who's going to fix it.

You also might try running your own codes before you bring it in to the dealer to see if your truck's computer has any DTCs stored in memory. The CEL does not have to be on for a trouble code to be stored.

I was talking to me wife on the phone when they called me so i told her,she called me back after talking to some others and told me it might be something wrong with the truck and a recall was issued and that's what they were talking about, not inspection.I'll try to find out more and post it here.

On another note, they can inspect it but have to let me authorise before they perform any work and i get a printout of what failed so i can take it wherever i want to get it fixed.

Just called the salesman and he told me since it's an old truck,
1994, they need to do an exhaust emmissions test then put a new sticker on it,i'll take it over when it's not raining and he said i can take it wherever i want to get it fixed in case anything is wrong so it looks like i'll take it over tomorrow if it quits raining.
I was born at night but not last night,or was i ?.
Thanks

Dont do it

I would not let that dealer touch the truck. Take it somewhere else for the emission sticker.

In Calif its the sellers responsibility to make sure a vehicle will pass emissions. Check the law in your state.

If your sticker is still good for a couple months, wait until then to get it re-stickered.

HaroldCallahan,

............
the inspection costs $40. and there gonna do it for free with no oblications to fix it.

87 XLT,
In Calif its the sellers responsibility to make sure a vehicle will pass emissions. Check the law in your state.
.............
From what i found so far,the dealer can sell it without any fixes,i bought it "as is-no warranty".

bigrigfixer,
If your sticker is still good for a couple months, wait until then to get it re-stickered.
................
If i wait til the last minute then get it inspected and it fails,i can get tickets if i drive it,this way i have some time to fix or get it fixed.
................
I know it's a little rich at start-up in the mornings and that's probably normal but i have bought new plugs, wires. After i bought it we started checking it out and found the right motor mount is broken,so i got both mounts, the left one don't look the greasest but it's still good.We also noticed the water pump has just started a small drip so we got a new one .I took off the AIC and my son cleaned it with berryman's and told me it wasn't very dirty. We also noticed the power steering return hose has a small leak and we have one of those to.
I like the truck with fancy wheels and tires and have been wanting one for a long time but these trucks sell like gold,it started out at $4400. firm but i managed to get them down to $3810. (what an odd figure) after hard negotioations ? but they made a mistake, they wouldn't do the paperwork that night so i drove it home.Next morning i started having feelings about it on the way back so i pulled into a parking lot and crawled under it,iand saw oil on the pan and auto,i called my son and he said it couldnt be that bad but i still wanted it.When we got to the dealership i told them i didn't want the truck and after they wanted to know why i told them and after some discussions they asked me how much would it cost to get it fixed,i called my son and he said it could cost as much as $500. They went inside, then came out and asked me if they dropped the price another $500. would i still take it,i said i think i would so i drove it back home and a little happier.Even if it costs the $500. to get it fixed i think i still got a hell of a bargain. My son is a mechanic (part time work)and takes care of me pretty damm good, all the work will be done this weekend plus checking out the electrics in the door.
Thanks for the input to all.
The truck has the following,
Engine 4.0L V6
Body Style Extended Cab
Transmission AUTO
Wheelbase 125" Drive Train
Exterior Color Red

1994 Ford Ranger SuperCab

Features: Power Steering, Power Door Locks, Power Windows, Split Bench Front Seat, Reclining Seats, Cloth Upholstery, Trip Odometer, Cruise Control, Interval Wipers, Remote Mirrors, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Cassette Player, Center Arm Rest(S), Map Lights, Vanity Mirror, Alloy Wheels, Air Conditioning, Accent Stripes, Bug Shield, Sliding Rear Window, Bed Liner, Chrome Bumper, Step Bumper, Security System, Remote Entry

Ya'll might want to read this article on "AS IS,NO WARRANTY",i think it's something to think about when buying used vehicles.

A lot of states require the dealer to provide a new updated emissions sticker when selling a vehicle. That may be the same in your state. I bought a used Ranger and they called me back to get a new sticker because they told me I would need the paperwork when I applied for license plates. Turns out it's a law in CO. My Ranger has lots of miles on it and has given me a new hobby repairing it. Nothing major so far. Mine was a 3 liter, 2wd, XLT with a hard tonneau cover. Looks good, runs and drives good and has already come in very handy. Good Luck with yours.

I didn't mean wait till the last second. I meant go and get it re-inspected a week before it's due.

It's finally over,i went today and let them inspect it and it was for free. Now i know why they kept pestering me,they couldn't do any paperwork until it was inspected even tho i paid cash for it so i guess i held them hostage lol.Because of a new law.According to Section 24007 (b) (2) of the Vehicle Code it states it's the responsibility of the seller to provide a valid smog certificate at the time of delivery. There is no provision in the law to sell a vehicle "as is".My wife found other things on the puter last night but there too long and i don't have the web page.It also states it's the dealers responsibility to smog test the vehicle before it is sold,to insure that you are not sold a vehicle which will pass smog,HOWEVER,the buyer is responsible for the cost of the smog test and certificate.According to the DMV Dealer handbook, "the dealer may charge the buyer $50. for the inspection plus actual fee charged for issuance of the smog certificate". (VC 11713.1 ,H&SC 44060 , & Dealer Handbook 8.010)
This is a great site and glad i could share something.
