1983 Bronco
351W
I have replaced the coil, wires, distributer cap and rotor, and the spark plugs. Removed varible venturi carb and put on a older 2 barrel carb from a 91' f-350 with a 351W. All I'm getting it 12 gauge gun shot gun blasts from the engine once every 30 15 seconds. What should I try and do? Is my timing off? It could be....... But would that prevent the engine from running NOT at all?? I was told there was a pick up coil and after taking the bottom on the distributer apart I found NO "pick-up" coil. I have NO vacum advance on the distbuter, When I bought the bronc a few hoses are plugeed here and there with screws, nothing out of the ordinary for an old vehical. What vital things am i missing? Getting good spurts of fuel from the pump when turrning the engine over. Step by step process? Thanks guys!
Alright, How do I go about getting full acsess to this timing gear and chain? Cover needs to come off? Fuel pump needs to be removed, power steering? Thanks
Ben
BE SURE that your distributor isn't in the engine 180 degrees off. DOUBLE AND TRIPLE check that. Take the engine to top dead center and make sure the rotor is pointing at the #1 cylinder.
If the distributor is right, then it could be the timing chain. You have to take the water pump off, and everything around the front cover of the engine. Not a diffifult task, just a long one.
If you do replace the timing chain and gears, I highly recommend replacing the water pump at the same time. They are only $30 and since you'll have it off anyway, might as well get it done now.
