my 79 f250 4x4 with a 351M has been sitting for a year without running. i just pulled it out of the garage and been messing with it and it doesn't want to idle. i have rebuilt the carb, cleaned out the gas tank. a newer fuel filter in it before it sat. I also ran some seafoam threw the carb to clean everything up. it will idle by itself when the temp gauge is near or at normal. I've connected all of the vaccum lines that i can see. i've also given it a complete tune up before it sat. new plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor, coil, fuel filter, rebuild carb. just wondering what you guys think should be my next step. the motor has about 106,000 on it. about 95,000 of those are from towing a trailer full of livestock to market. the motor is kinda weak. not enough money to replace it. any ideas to get it runnin smooth. it also dies sometimes going down the road on occasion.
You didn't mention setting the idle air mixture screws on the carb after all the other he setting are made.
Starting point is 1 1/2 turns out from seat.
make sure you don't tighten too much on needle seating as you can screw them up.
One screw at a time.. turn all the all the way in until engine stumbles... while counting the turns all the way out until it stumbles again turn the screw outward then stop.
...
Halve the amount of turns you counted and turn it back in that much.
okay lol i'll look into the choke, also i don't have a rpm gauge in the truck so.... before i start the truck, i will turn the idle and air/fuel screws in and turn them both out 1 1/2 turns and then start the truck. sound good? and also are there any key things to look for when judging the choke
